Cal Fire - Butte County volunteer firefighter Eric Pittman from station 42 hoses down hotspots at the scene of a fire that burned down a home on Meridian Ave Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Chico, Calif. The 3 residents, a couple and friend, were not home at the time of the fire that began around 12:40pm and fully engulfed the home by the time the first engine arrived. The friend, who is also the landlord, had not been accounted for at the time, but is not believed to have been home either. The home had no electrical or heat source and the cause is under investigation. The fire was reported by neighbors and burned a total loss to the 3 bd, 1 ba approx 1200 sq ft home. Chico Fire also responded. (Jason Halley/Chico Enterprise-Record)
BC/CDF firefighters Matt McKenzie (left) and Jason Morris (right) battle a fire that burned about 5 acres along Neal Rd. near Royal Meadow Ln. Tuesday. The cause of the fire was from a several model rockets fired by two local residence juvenile 15yr olds, in which one rocket caused the blaze to start. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from reaching the canyon. A big problem was the high humidity which created a heavy smoke leading to a visibility of 50-60 ft at the head of the fire. The blaze immediately threatened one residence and endangered four to five other homes. No residences were in the immediately threatned home, at 2660 Neal Rd., but it had a defensible space (mowed flammable vegetation, no woodpile, ect) around it, which helped steer off the fire. -halley photo 6/13/06
